Orchard Towers (Chinese: 豪杰大厦) is a 20-storey office building in Singapore located on the corner of Claymore Road and Orchard Road. The first five floors are a combination of bars and retail outlets with the remainder leased as offices. Orchard Towers has to be one of the most interesting places in Singapore. Most of us have heard the stories about the girls that can found this is mall at the beginning of the well known Orchard Road. While not everyone has had or wanted the pleasure to experience that can be found in the four floors of these shopping mall, I’m sure many have heard of it. Many a sailor, vacationer or local Singaporean (yes they go there too) have visited one if not all of the clubs there. While Singapore does what it can to keep it's "morally clean" image at the same time it has faced the facts that anytime you have tourism that brings in people from all over the world, one of the business shipping port in the region bringing a lot of single guys coming into the country and prostitution is going to happen anyway, you should control it. Singapore has "Legal Red Light Districts" areas which many visitors don't know about and Orchard Towers seams to be one of them, all though not formally listed as the other four are. By doing this it protects the local girls from the hordes of the sailors of U.S. 7th fleet and any other men on the prowl in the city for ladies to spend their money on. So you have Orchard Towers on the mile long expensive shopping road and I couldn't think of a better place to have it either.
During the day time you'll find Orchard Towers like any of the other malls on the mile long road. You'll find your tailors shops and the electronic shops and a few places to eat and get a message if you are feeling tired. But you’ll also see that all clubs that take up well over half the mall that are closed up until around 5 pm when many start to open. Most of the shops in Orchard Towers will start to close up about 7 or 7:30 to avoid the rush of guys and girls that will soon occupy the malls clubs and surrounding areas. The girls that work in the mall really hate it when guys try to pick them up thinking they are a hooker. But most of the time, if not all the time, you can tell the difference between them and should always leave the "non-working" girls alone to keep the peace.

The Ipanema and Peyton Place are Filipina hang outs mostly while the other will have mix of everyone else. The Thai girls come down from Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya for 2 to 3 weeks at a shot to make some money then head back home so the chances of running in to here again may be slim. If you meet a girl you want to hook up with again get her cell number and see when or if she be retuning.

This place is ideally located by the steps leading into the towers to both the basement and first floor so you can watch the girls come and go if that is your thing or if you want to scout out the action entering the building. It is also apparent that this entrance is the way most of the girls use since it is close to the taxi stand where they unload from. The best seat of course is right next to the steps on the out side of the club. Monkeys is open until 5am so if you find yourself the last to leave with your honey you can take her there since many of the clubs will close between 3 and 9am. Choosing the right Girl
Girls on the street in Geylang - depending on what part of Geylang you are in will depend on the kind of girls you’ll see on the streets. In the Lorong 20/18 and alley way between them you’ll find Thai’s, Indonesians with Indians in the alley way mostly.
The Thai girls in the evening will be lined up as their pimp tries to get you to take one of his girls vice one from his competitor a few steps away. Along Sims Avenue, between Lorong 17 and Lorong 15 is a very popular 24-hour dim-sum stall at No. 126. Try thevarious types of dim-sum and also the century egg congee (pronounced in Cantonese as "pei dan zok") here. Don't be afraid, the preserved egg is not really a 100 years old!
Further down Sims Avenue, you'll see a whole row of roadside fruit stalls selling King of Fruits - durians, mangosteens, and all kinds of colourful, local fruits. The fruit stalls are interesting to visit. As a local, I just can't get enough of the rich, creamy, bitter-sweet lumps, but most foreigners find the taste of durians repulsive. I notice that mangosteens (sweet, white flesh) are very well-liked by foreigners though. Be careful of the purplish red stains which come off the fruit when you eat it though. It's hard to wash off if it gets on your clothes!
If you can't bring yourself to buy and try an entire spiky green 'melon', then try a durian "chee cheong fun" (a smooth, white skin made from rice flour which is usually stuffed with shrimps or chicken and eaten with soya sauce) instead at Jia Ping Porridge House. This is indeed a very unusual dessert, with durian puree stuffed in rice flour skin, then coated with a layer of peanuts. The porridge house is tucked amongst the row of fruit stalls and is located at No. 81 Sims Avenue (opposite Lorong 11). It is open till 4.00 a.m. and the porridge house also serves a whole array of delectable savouries like chee cheong fun stuffed with you char kway (crispy dough fritters), fresh raw fish, and wanton noodles.

After your pit-stop at Jia Ping Porride House, cross Sims Avenue and walk down Lorong 9. At the other end, Lorong 9 will meet Geylang Road. At that junction, there are 2 coffeeshops. The one on your left has a stall called Geylang Famous Beef Kway Teow (fried Chinese, flat, rice noodles served with tender slices of beef in black bean sauce), whilst the one of your right has a stall selling frog's leg porridge. If you intend to order something from both coffee shops, you can sit on either side of the road. The hawkers will cross the road to serve you the food. Just let them know where you're seated.
After you've had your fill, walk down Geylang Road in the direction of Lorong 11. Wedged between Lorong 9 and Lorong 11 is a coffeeshop called Yong He Eating House. This 24-hour coffeeshop too serves soya beancurd, and it is definitely more popular than Rochor Beancurd. Order yourself a bowl of soya beancurd in sweet syrup and some you char kway (crispy dough fritters) to go along.

How It all Begin
The word Geylang is found early in Singapore's history. On Franklin and Jackson's plan, reproduced in John Crawfurd's 1828 book, Geylang appears as a river, referred to in the map as R. Gilang. The word Geylang is of Malay origin, and likely to be a corruption of the word kilang, meaning "press", "mill" or "factory". This may be due to the large number of processing factories for the coconut and lemongrass plantations in the area, and it could be that mills or presses operated on the coconut plantations to produce oil from copra.
Another possible origin to Geylang is the early presence of the fierce orang gallang tribe, one of the many orang laut tribal groups that lived along the coasts and rivers of Singapore island. The orang gallang were well-known for their piracy and pillaging of helpless craft in seas around Singapore island.
The other possible origin to the word "Geylang" is Chinese Hokkien "鸡笼“, which means chicken cage.
